Circadian Station - Jeremy Taylor - Station feld recordings

Jeremy explored various spaces to create a work using the sonic textures of Flinders Street Station. An ambient recording of 24 hours at the station informed the piece’s structure and form. From there, sounds taken from field recordings, cassette tapes of old announcements and found objects were compiled, cut and manipulated to create a contemporary piece of music that reflects the circadian pulse of Flinders Street Station. When it came to performing the piece in the old ballroom, guitar and bass was played over the final section to humanise the inherently industrial sounds of the recordings and to represent the release at the end of the proverbial ‘daily grind’.
